What is a Massage? And Why should I get one?

Swedish massage is the most common massage. Developed by Henrik Ling in Sweden in the 1700s. There is a basic routine to most massage sessions. It mostly is Kneading of the soft tissue/muscles. Massage allows the body to absorb more oxygen, thereby rejuvenating the body. This type of massage is also geared towards detoxification of the body by increasing the speed by which the cells eliminate their waste materials. Massage soothes aching muscles and relieves pain, but there are many other benefits to having our bodies massaged on a regular basis. Massage fulfills the body’s need for touch. Regular massage improves emotional well-being by allowing the person to feel cared for and nurtured. With massage, the mind is made to feel calm and relaxed. Such a state of the mind is good for enhancing focus and improving concentration, thereby making the mind more creative and productive. Massage also makes the mind aware of the body, allowing it to recognize more quickly its needs and other possible afflictions. A good massage is a great experience, but a great massage can be an exhilarating experience. Look under Massage benefits tab for more information!

What to expect in an Appointment?

To insure a smooth and relaxing experience, please arrive 10 minutes early to your appointment, especially if you have not been seen at our facility before. There will be a short health history questionnaire that will need to be filled out, so please be prepared to write down any health concerns and issues that you may be having. Late arrivals may need to have the session shortened or rescheduled as to not inconvenience the next client. Fees will occur on all no-show or cancellations in accordance to our 24 hour cancellation policy found under the payment tab. Wear comfortable clothing. (you will be disrobing to your comfort level) If you choose to eat before your massage, make it light. Massage speeds up the digestive process sometimes rushing things-which can cause bloating and gas and make everyone uncomfortable in the room :) Your happiness and well being is our primary concern, please express your questions and opinions regarding your experience with us. Be sure to speak up if: the room is too hot or too cold, if you experience pain, if you have any questions related to the massage, or there's anything you forgot to mention during the consultation. Please turn off cell phones: we want you to escape from your reality for one hour. Last but not least-be prepared to drink plenty of water after your massage. Extra water helps flush any toxins out of your body that we may have stirred up during your session. Feel free to rebook an appointment in 4-6 weeks to repeat the experience!

What are some Benefits of Massage Therapy?

Massage on a regular basis can help to remove the feeling of pain in the body by stimulating the release of endorphins, which are the body’s feel-good hormones. Because massage relieves pain regardless of cause, it also lessens the body’s need for pain-killing medications. Massage also loosens tight or sore muscles, lowers stress, lowers blood pressure, allows you to breathe easier, lessens anxiety, fights depression, Improves circulation , rejuvenates skin, stimulates lymph nodes, boosts immunity , improves flexibility, increases range of motion, improves posture, and many more not listed. It is also said that massage helps break down accumulated fat underneath the skin, thus aiding weight loss.

When to not get a Massage?

What are the Contraindications to Massage? Massage is non-invasive, relaxing and natural. It is therefore generally considered a safe treatment for most people. However, there are three types of contraindication: TOTAL, when massage should not be performed at all, LOCAL, when massage can be performed but not over the contraindicated areas and MEDICAL, when massage can only be performed once medical permission has been granted. The following restrictions are in place to protect your health and well-being. Thank you for taking them as seriously as we do. We highly recommend our clients to consult their physician if there are medical concerns. Our therapists do not diagnose and massage is not a substitute for medical treatment by a physician. Total-When you have any of these conditions; please do not book a massage: Fever, Contagious or infectious diseases, including any cold or flu no matter how mild it may seem, under the influence of drugs or alcohol- including prescription pain medication, recent operations or acute injuries, Skin diseases Local-Can massage but not over any areas affected by: Varicose veins, Undiagnosed lumps or bumps, Pregnancy, Bruising, Cuts, Abrasions, Sunburn, Undiagnosed pain, Inflammation, including Arthritis Medical-If you suffer from any of the following conditions, massage can only take place once it has been approved before your session in writing by your Physician: Cardio-vascular conditions (Thrombosis, Phlebitis, Hypertension, Heart conditions) Any condition already$ being treated by a medical practitioner, Edema, Psoriasis or Eczema, High blood pressure, Osteoporosis, Cancer, Nervous or Psychotic conditions, Heart problems, Angina, those with pacemakers, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Bell’s palsy, trapped or pinched nerves, Gynecological infections Does a contraindication mean that treatment cannot take place? Do you have a cancellation policy?

Due to the amount of time that must be blocked out for each appointment, it is necessary to require 24-hour notice on all cancellations or the full fee of the service missed may be charged. Even when paying with a gift card a fee will be enforced for missed appointments.

To tip or not to tip?

Tips are always accepted, but never expected. Feel free to tip according to the satisfaction of your experience. Usually a customary gratuity for massage services is 15%-20% of the service fee before any discounts, coupons or gift cards. By adding gratuity to your total you are letting your therapist know that your massage wishes were met or even exceeded.

What does Lotus mean?

It is not a specific massage, but a name of a flower. Lotus flowers have strong symbolic ties to many Asian cultures. The lotus flower starts down at the bottom of a pond in the mud and muck. It slowly grows up towards the water’s surface continually moving towards the light. Once it comes to the surface of the water it begins to blossom and turn into a beautiful flower. In Buddhism and Christianity it is a symbol for awakening to the spiritual reality of life, a symbol of purity and peace. Many people feel that these flowers represent life in general. Same as the lotus flower that grows from the mud into an object of great beauty; people also grow and change into something more beautiful.
